With the addition of the Negro Leagues into MLB’s record books in 2024, the 1929 Monarchs have jumped to the top of the list. Tom Young, Bullet Rogan, LeRoy Taylor and Frank Duncan all hit over .350, while Army Cooper, William Bell and Chet Brewer each won at least 14 games.
2. 57-15 (.792) – 1943 Homestead Grays
The Grays were loaded with stars in 1943. Josh Gibson had a record .466 batting average with 20 homers and 112 RBIs in just 249 at-bats, while Cool Papa Bell hit .350 and fellow Hall of Famer Buck Leonard batted .329. Johnny Wright won 18 games on the mound.
