The Unexpected Reason Behind the Flood of Congratulations for Ryan Day’s Family This Week Revealed
It’s still months before the roar of college football fills stadiums again, but for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, there’s already a buzz worth celebrating — and it has everything to do with his son, RJ. Think about it: when your kid’s breaking school passing records as a sophomore at St. Francis DeSales and suddenly starts racking up scholarship offers from colleges like Syracuse, it’s hard not to wonder—could this be the start of a family legacy on the gridiron? RJ’s a scrappy, tough-as-nails QB with impressive stats and an early pile of offers, making “hot commodity” an understatement. But while fans cheer from the sidelines (and Twitter), the bigger question looms—where will he take his talents when the time comes? For now, it’s a thrilling teaser of what’s to come in the Day family’s football saga.
We’re still several months away from the start of the 2025 college football season, but Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has a good reason to celebrate this week.
It’s no secret that Day’s son, RJ, is a talented high school quarterback for St. Francis DeSales in Columbus. He’s currently listed as a member of 2027 recruiting class.
During RJ’s sophomore season at St. Francis DeSales, he became the school’s all-time leading passer. In 2024, he threw for 1,425 yards and 14 touchdowns. He broke the record on a 24-yard pass to Jordan Karhoff.
Over his two-year career, he has compiled 2,993 passing yards and 29 touchdowns according to head coach Ryan Wiggins
As a freshman in 2023, Day completed 71.1 percent of his passes for 1,568 yards and 15 touchdowns, helping the Stallions finish 5-6 and reach the postseason.
A scrambler who embraces contact, Day has rushed for 336 yards and five touchdowns in his high school career
Earlier this week, RJ Day had exciting news to share regarding his football career.
Although it’ll be a while until we see RJ compete at the collegiate level, he has already received an offer from Syracuse.
“Thank you @CoachNixon_Cuse for offering me a scholarship to Syracuse University,” RJ Day wrote on social media.
College football fans, especially those residing in Ohio, wasted no time congratulating RJ on this scholarship offer.
“Congratulations RJ,” one fan replied.
“Make that visit they’re a sleeping giant,” a second fan said.
“Congrats,” another fan wrote.
RJ Day already has offers from Akron, Boston College, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Marshall, Miami (OH), Rhode Island, Temple and Toledo.
It’s too early to tell where RJ will play college football. That being said, he’s clearly a hot commodity.
