The Untold Secret That Could Make or Shatter This Season’s NBA Championship Dreams
They have a lot of outstanding guards (Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Luke Kennard) and a lot of outstanding bigs (Jaren Jackson Jr., Santi Aldama, Jay Huff, Brandon Clarke and Zach Edey). But to win in the playoffs, you also need two-way wings/forwards who can defend, space the floor, and attack closeouts.
In theory, Jaylen Wells can check all these boxes, but that’s a lot of responsibility to bestow on a rookie taken in the second round of the draft.
While Wells can take on some of that responsibility, heâll need some help. That’s why Vince Williams Jr. is so important to the Grizzlies moving forward. Last season, when healthy, he fulfilled all the duties we outlined above. This season, even with all his injuries, the Grizzlies are a plus-50 in his 89 minutes.
