A college football player at a Greater Cincinnati college was found dead in an off-campus incident on Saturday evening. The college football player was reportedly found by authorities. He is believed to have died by a gunshot wound.
Tony Crane, a sophomore college football player at Wilmington College in Ohio, was reportedly found dead on Saturday evening. He is believed to have been found dead inside of a frat house near campus.
Police are now investigating.
Wilmington Police in Ohio issued a statement confirming that authorities responded to a call about 12:43 a.m. local time on March 23. Crane was found dead at the scene.
Classes at the Ohio college have been cancelled on Monday as a result of the tragedy. A firearm was reportedly recovered at the scene and police are investigating.
Vice president for student affairs and dean of students Sigrid Solomon released a statement on the tragedy.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of one of our own, Tony Crane, a sophomore, who passed away early this morning,” the school’s statement said.
“Tony was a valued member of both the football team and the DTS (Delta Theta Sigma) Fraternity. Counseling and Campus Ministry Services have been made available to students.”
“Wilmington Police Department continues to investigate and reports there is no danger to community members. We will update the College as we learn more from authorities.”
