Davis had been limited some by a shoulder injury in practice this week but it didn’t show in the game.

“I just felt like we had a lot of dynamic playmakers,” said Blue coach Dave Collins of Hodgson. “They have a great team over there [on Gold] as well but we just had a lot of confidence in our guys.

A constellation of Blue all-stars sprinkled big plays across Tubby Raymond Field on June 20, stirring up some Friday night football moments they’ll remember fondly.

Davis, bound for Albright College, had six catches for 225 yards, and was voted game MVP.The Gold was behind just 14-12 at halftime after Caesar Rodney quarterback Julius Timmons’ 13-yard touchdown pass to leaping Emory Womack of St. George’s. It was 21-18 after Delmar’s Khalid Schoolfield scored on a 1-yard run on a drive that featured key passes by both Timmons and Bradley Chavez of Sussex Central.

“There were days at practice where not a single ball hit the ground in the pass game. I don’t think Ryan Tattersall dropped a pass the entire week.”The game has raised nearly million dollars to benefit children with intellectual disabilities through DFRC – which stands for Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens — since its 1956 inception.

Tattersall had also caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brady McBride on the first play of the second quarter, but said throwing for the TD was more fun.“Being able to see my teammate score, that was great,” Tattersall said. “Sheem and I lived right across the hall from each other [in a University of Delaware dorm leading up to the game] so we spent a lot of time talking. I knew right when I caught it, I saw him wide open.”

 It was just 21-18 before Ryan Tattersall, lined up at wide receiver, caught the football and then heaved the 80-yard strike to the speedy Davis with 3:34 left in the third period. Tattersall was a wideout his first two seasons at Friends before playing quarterback the last two and will be a receiver at Harvard.Tattersall and Womack earned the annual Blue-Gold leadership awards for their teams.

“It was an honor playing in the Blue-Gold game,” Davis said afterward. “Coming out here and playing was just a bonus. The game means a lot to me. I’ve never been in any type of situation like this playing on a big field, a college field.”

The Blue won its fourth in a row, secured its second straight 30-point romp and now leads the series 36-30 with three ties.The 48 points set a Blue-Gold game record, surpassing the Gold’s 2005 output in a 47-6 win.

While its prolific offense certainly wowed the audience, the Blue defense was also instrumental as it had three takeaways and limited the Gold’s vaunted running attack. Defensive lineman Marcus Williams of William Penn was named the game’s top lineman.Conrad quarterback Gabe Welsh ignited the Gold’s second-half barrage with a 25-yard touchdown throw to Hodgson’s Marlon Sparks as the Blue went up 21-12.

The Blue roster is comprised of recent graduates from high schools north of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. The Gold players come from high schools south of the C&D Canal plus Red Lion Christian Academy up north.Salesianum quarterback McBride then threw to Davis, who dashed past his cheering Blue teammates on the sideline, on the 97-yard hook-up with 8:54 left in the game.Hodgson Vo-Tech’s Brysheem Davis hauled in 80- and 97-yard scoring passes to highlight the happenings as the Blue trounced the Gold 48-18 in the 69th edition of the DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game at Delaware Stadium.
