Unbelievable Run-Scoring Explosions: The Wildest Postseason and World Series Games Ever Played!

They would win the series in five games to advance to the ALCS, where they fell to the rival New York Yankees.

Most Runs by a Team in a World Series Game: 18 – New York Yankees vs. New York Giants (Oct. 2, 1936)

The 1936 Yankees still hold the record for the most runs scored in a World Series game. In Game 2 against the rival Giants at the Polo Grounds, they finished with 17 hits in a rout that also was the biggest margin of victory in a World Series game.

Tony Lazzeri delivered the big blow with a grand slam off Dick Coffman that broke it open and made it 9-1 for the Yankees. Lost in this scoring onslaught was Joe DiMaggio’s catch to end the game. Hank Leiber hit one 490 feet to dead center where DiMaggio caught the ball running up the steps of the clubhouse, rivaling Willie Mays’ catch there in the 1954 World Series.
