Undrafted Chargers Rookie Shocks Fans and Coaches with Unbelievable Rise
Ever wonder how an underdog with no fancy combine invites can suddenly make NFL talent evaluators do a double-take? Well, the Los Angeles Chargers might have stumbled upon their secret weapon in Luke Grimm, an undrafted rookie from Kansas who’s been turning heads and shaking up the preseason chatter. With a helmet like that sitting on the SoFi Stadium turf, you’d think there’s a storm brewing—not just from the crowd noise but from Grimm’s electrifying 66-yard punt return touchdown that’s got everyone talking. The Chargers are clearly hungry for more arsenal beyond their budding quarterback and Ladd McConkey, and Grimm’s speed, savvy, and special teams prowess just might tip the scales. Let’s dive into why this unheralded receiver could be the spark the Chargers desperately need to ignite their passing game.

The Los Angeles Chargers need more weapons for the passing game.
They have a promising quarterback with elite upside, but they need to give him another reliable pass-catcher besides Ladd McConkey.
As shown by Ari Meirov on X, they may have found him as an undrafted free agent.
Remember the name: Luke Grimm.

Luke Grimm went undrafted out of Kansas, and he’s making a case for the 53-man roster.
He turned plenty of heads on Saturday when he returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown.
Grimm was a team captain in his final year in college.
He paced the Jayhawks with 51 receptions for 690 yards and six touchdowns, and while those numbers don’t necessarily pop out, he wasn’t in the best position to put up major stats.
Standing at 6-foot-0 and 190 pounds, he makes the most of his damage with his speed, craftiness, and elite change of direction.
Grimm wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, but he drew some fuss at the Big 12 Pro Day, showing teams that there was more than enough to work with and that he was worthy of a shot.
The Chargers also have rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the mix.
Harris is a lock to make the roster, and Lambert-Smith looked solid in the Hall of Fame Game as well.
The Chargers will most likely use a run-heavy offense again this season, but you can never have too many weapons, and given his ability to contribute to special teams, they should strongly consider keeping Grimm around.
