They moved on from Sam Howell, sending him to the Philadelphia Eagles, and adding veteran Carson Wentz to be their backup.

Nevertheless, Wentz might not even be a lock to be QB2 by the end of the season.

According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, undrafted rookie Max Brosmer has made a strong impression during his brief time with the organization.

The rookie out of Minnesota has played well in the preseason, and he capped things off nicely in Friday’s preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans.

He was on the field for all but two of the team’s drives in the finale.

He closed out the game with 15 completions on 23 attempts for 161 yards, one touchdown, and a 100.1 passer rating.

While not the most explosive or athletic QB, he’s a good decision-maker, and he’s done a solid job of keeping the ball out of harm’s way and not taking unnecessary hits.

Through three preseason contests, the former Golden Gophers signal-caller completed 35 of 58 passes (60.3 percent) for 364 yards, two touchdowns, and one pick.

The Vikings are quite high on J.J. McCarthy, and barring a shocking turn of events, he’s going to be the undisputed starter for the entire year.

Then again, he’s coming off a season-ending injury, and you never know what version of Carson Wentz you’re going to get.

As such, it wouldn’t be the worst or craziest idea to also keep Brosmer on the roster as an insurance policy, even if he’s projected as a third-stringer.
