Unexpected Breakouts and Shocking Trades: Inside the Thrilling Final Rounds of the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles
The 2025 NHL Draft is a wrap. After two days and seven rounds worth of picks, each team has selected its newest members to join their squad for the future with some prospects ready to hit the ice now and some needing more time to develop their games.
The New York Islanders kicked things off on Friday by selecting defenseman Matthew Schaefer at No. 1 overall to help stabilize their back end for years to come. Schaefer registered seven goals and 15 assists to go along with a +21 rating in just 17 games this past season after dealing with a collarbone injury.
