So, the Los Angeles Rams — a team that’s pretty much mastered the art of turning “meh” into “wow” — just made a move that’s got me scratching my head and intrigued. They’ve signed Jesse Luketa, a guy who’s bounced around a bit, coming off a thigh injury and looking to prove he’s more than just a name on a depth chart. Now, here’s the kicker: Is this just another one of those under-the-radar pickups that somehow turns into a gem under Sean McVay’s watchful eye? One of the best defenses in the NFL has added another player. It might not make much of a difference, but the Los Angeles Rams rarely make a bad move.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Rams have signed a former Arizona Cardinals defender.

“Former Cardinals OLB Jesse Luketa is signing today with the Rams. The former Penn State standout recorded three sacks and one forced fumble in 10 games last season. He is fully healthy after recovering from a season-ending thigh injury,” Schultz wrote on X.

Luketa was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has played in 31 NFL games. The 26-year-old started two games for Arizona last season, and in 10 appearances had 21 combined tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble.

Of course, he’s going to have to work to get on the field for Los Angeles. That’s why he may only be a practice squad addition at this point. The Rams had an opening after parting with linebacker Jamil Muhammad.

Even so, the Rams have struck gold so many times in the past that it’s impossible to ignore any move they make. They have a knack for finding and developing players who are overlooked and turn out to be legitimate rotational players in head coach Sean McVay’s system.

Whether this will be the case here remains to be seen. But with the Rams, fans always have to keep an eye open.
