Unlock the Secret Twist Changing Everything You Thought You Knew About This Story
So, the Philadelphia Eagles kick off their 2025 campaign fresh off a Super Bowl title, cruising past the Cowboys in a game that screamed “methodical grind.” But here’s the juicy bit—despite the win, Colin Cowherd’s antenna was up, sniffing a potential seismic shift on the horizon. Could Philly really trade away A.J. Brown after a so-so debut catch of just eight yards? It’s a head-scratcher because on paper, the Eagles thrive on pounding the rock with Barkley and protecting Hurts, making Brown’s role seem a bit… peripheral. Yet, strip away Brown’s aggressive blocking and relentless yardage, and defenses would swarm Barkley without mercy. So, is this silence on the field a blip or forewarning a blockbuster deal? Philly fans, buckle up—the next few months might just have some unexpected twists tucked under those midnight green wings.

The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles opened their 2025 season with a spirited victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, thanks to a workmanlike approach on offense and a stout defense that was able to tighten up down the stretch and avoid giving up the big play that could have swung the game in Dallas’ favor.
Despite being 1-0, The Herd’s Colin Cowherd noticed something during the game that he is filing away for the future, as he believes a big trade could be coming down the pipeline.
Cowherd said on Thursday that fans shouldn’t be surprised if the Eagles wind up trading star receiver A.J. Brown after he caught just one pass for eight yards in the Week 1 victory.
“My takeaway is keep an eye on Philadelphia and A.J. Brown. The last 20 games, nobody has run the ball more than Philadelphia. The soul of the offense is Saquon Barkley, the O-Line, and Jalen Hurts.”

Cowherd added it was noteworthy how Hurts and the coaching staff came out and defended Brown’s quiet performance and suggested it was just a unique set of circumstances, and the running game was a big priority against Dallas.
As long as the Eagles are winning and Brown is happy, it’s tough to envision the Eagles actually trading him after making the Super Bowl twice in three years since trading for him.
While the running game is certainly the priority in Philly’s offense, Brown’s presence benefits the running game greatly.
A perpetual 1,000-yard receiver who is relentlessly physical and a willing blocker does wonders for opening up a run game, and without Brown, defenses would have a much easier time stacking the box to stop Barkley and Hurts.
That’s football 101, and even though Brown has a potential out in his contract after next season, he is signed through 2029 and is far too valuable to this offense to consider trading.
