Unlocking the Untold Power of Negro Leagues on Jackie Robinson Day: More Than Just a Number
Robinson’s legacy lives on. He made his major league debut on April 15, 1947, and now, every April 15 is officially Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, with all players, managers and coaches wearing 42 as his uniform number in honor of the player who not only broke the barrier, but went on to have a Hall of Fame career.
Robinson’s legacy isn’t just at the big-league level, though. In Wichita, Kansas, former sportswriter Bob Lutz is the founder and executive director of League 42, a non-profit baseball league for local kids.
