Deion Sanders won’t be leaving Colorado anytime soon.

Earlier this year, Sanders was mentioned as a candidate for the Dallas Cowboys’ head-coaching vacancy. Despite all the rumors linking him to “America’s Team,” he kept saying he had no desire to leave Colorado. Well, he wasn’t kidding.

On Friday afternoon, Colorado rewarded Sanders with a massive contract extension. According to Colorado reporter Brian Howell, it’s a five-year, $54 million deal for the Hall of Famer.

This deal for Sanders will run through the 2029 season. He’ll have the chance to earn even more money through incentives.

“Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power,” Colorado athletic director Rick George said. “Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power.”

This contract will put Sanders in the top five for highest-paid coaches in college football.

“I’m committed to bringing greatness to this university, on and off the field,” Sanders said after signing this deal. “We’ve got work to do, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here, making history with these incredible players and this passionate fan base. Lastly, anybody got at least a five bedroom home with acreage for sale?”

Sanders went 4-8 in his first season as the head coach of the Buffaloes. After talking a big game during the offseason, he led the program to a 9-4 record and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl.

The future is incredibly bright for Colorado strictly because Sanders is at the helm. His ability to recruit high-level talent to Boulder and then develop them is second to none.
