Unveiled in Japan: The Shohei Ohtani Sculpture That's Sparking Intense Debate Worldwide

Here’s a thought to chew on: what does it take for a snow sculpture to go viral? Especially when that sculpture is none other than Shohei Ohtani — baseball’s two-way wizard — immortalized mid-glory alongside his beloved dog, Decoy, at Japan’s iconic Sapporo Snow Festival? As the Los Angeles Dodgers lock down their latest World Series crown and bolster their roster with some serious pitching firepower, Ohtani’s magic never fades. Fresh off his 2024 NL MVP win, he’s not just a player—they’ve turned him into a cultural phenomenon, one frosty masterpiece at a time. So, what does this icy tribute say about Ohtani’s impact both on and off the diamond? Stick around, because this blend of snow, sport, and star power might just be baseball’s coolest story yet…

SAPPORO, JAPAN - FEBRUARY 04: Workers touch up a snow sculpture of Japanese baseball player Shohei Ohtani during the 75th Sapporo Snow Festival on February 04, 2025 in Sapporo, Japan. The Sapporo Snow Festival, held annually in early February, is one of Japan's most iconic winter events, attracting over two million visitors to marvel at its stunning snow and ice sculptures across three main venues: Odori Park, Susukino, and Tsudome. The festival, which began in 1950 with six snow sculptures created by local students, has grown into a global spectacle featuring large-scale snow art, illuminated displays, and various winter activities.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reinforced their recent dominance of Major League Baseball by winning the eighth World Series title in franchise history and their second in the past five seasons.

After finishing with a record of 98-64 and winning the National League West, the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series.

This offseason, the Dodgers continued to improve their team as they added notable players including starting pitcher Blake Snell, starting pitcher Roki Sasaki and relief pitcher Tanner Scott.

Although Sasaki is the newest and most hyped Japanese player on the Dodgers, you can’t forget their proven Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, who just won the 2024 NL MVP award.

Now, a sculpture of Ohtani and his dog Decoy is going viral on social media, via MLB on X.

Ohtani has been one of the best, if not the best, players in baseball over the past four seasons.

He recently won his third MVP award in those four seasons, his first in the National League.

As a DH, Ohtani played in 159 games for the Dodgers and batted .310 with 54 home runs, 59 stolen bases, 130 RBIs and a 1.036 OPS.

Ohtani also went viral on social media during the World Series parade as he had Decoy with him.

It will be interesting to see if Ohtani can keep up his historic production next season as the Dodgers look for the first back-to-back World Series titles in their history.
