Bill Belichick will coach his first collegiate game on September 1 when North Carolina hosts TCU.
He took the UNC job after the school parted ways with Mack Brown at the end of the 2024 season. The school is giving him $10 million to coach the football team this year and his staff is also going to be well-compensated.Â
According to 247Sports, Belichick’s staff is expected to make almost $12.5 million for the 2025 season. The school is paying Belichick’s assistant coaches almost $7 million combined, about $3.7 million to the front office, a little over $1 million to the strength and conditioning coaches, and just shy of $750,000 to other support coaches.Â
Belichick’s son, Steve, will make $1.3 million to serve as the program’s defensive coordinator while offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens will earn $1.15 million.Â
His staff is well-compensated and together, they will try and help Belichick get the program back on track after winning only six games last season. Brown had been the head coach for six seasons in his second stint at UNC before getting fired.Â
The Tar Heels haven’t won double-digit games since 2015 when Larry Fedora was the head coach. They won 11 games and got to the Russell Athletic Bowl.Â
Belichick took 2024 off after he and the New England Patriots parted ways and did a lot of media for ESPN and the “Pat McAfee Show.” However, he still loves coaching and is excited to work with the players in Chapel Hill.Â
If he does well, NFL teams could come calling as soon as the end of 2025 since his buyout drops to $1 million once June comes around.
