Urban Meyer Demands Shocking ‘Automatic Ban’ That Could Shake College Sports Forever
Urban Meyer, never one to mince words, just lobbed a verbal grenade at Michigan’s football program amid the fallout of their sign-stealing scandal. With Michigan’s coach Sherrone Moore set to miss key games this season thanks to self-imposed NCAA sanctions, Meyer didn’t just weigh in—he hammered down a personal code of conduct, insisting coaches who lie to the NCAA should be banished from college football, no second chances. But here’s the kicker: Meyer’s own legacy is littered with controversy, from handling domestic violence allegations at Ohio State to a shaky culture during his Florida tenure. So, can the man who’s faced his own share of scrutiny credibly lecture others on integrity? Or is this just a masterclass in hypocrisy? This debate is stirring the pot in college football circles, making you wonder—what truly defines accountability in the high-stakes, high-drama world of college coaching?
Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer delivered a not-so-subtle message to Michigan’s football team this week.
It was reported this week that Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is expected to be suspended for the team’s Week 3 and Week 4 games against Central Michigan and Nebraska. That punishment is part of self-imposed sanctions for the sign-stealing scandal from 2023.
Last August, the Wolverines received a notice of allegations from the NCAA. The program was hit with six Level I violations.
On the latest edition of “The Triple Option” podcast, Meyer commented on Michigan’s situation. Let’s just say he didn’t hold back.
Meyer said he believes coaches should receive automatic bans from the NCAA if they get caught lying.
“If you lie as a college football coach to the NCAA, in my personal opinion, your finished,” Meyer said. “That’s not making a text message, that’s not going to lunch with someone your not supposed to go to lunch with. When they got you and they say did you do this, and they refuse to cooperate, or they lie, in my very strong opinion, you’re finished coaching in Division I college football.”
Meyer’s remarks aren’t sitting well with the college football world. Countless fans think it’s hypocritical of him to reprimand other coaches.
“Coming from a guy that lied. Rich,” one fan replied.
“This has to be a parody,” another fan said.
“Ahh yes, no better person to talk about having integrity than Urban Meyer,” a third fan sarcastically said.
There was a domestic violence scandal at Ohio State when Meyer was the head coach at Ohio State. He reportedly failed to take sufficient action against former assistant coach Zach Smith.
As for Meyer’s stint at Florida, there were over two dozen players arrested for various reasons. That raised plenty of questions about his culture.
Do you think Meyer was out of line for his comments about NCAA coaches receiving lifetime bans?
