As we barrel into the holiday weekend, the glaring signal that summer has ended and attention turns to football, we’re anxiously awaiting the storm in the NHL. We looked for the potential positives of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ changes and how fans can affect them, too. Elsewhere, the Calgary Flames players are openly admitting Calgary d-man Rasmus Anderssen will be traded, and buried within the Marco Rossi contract report was a golden nugget of the offers that Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin rejected.

Road trip! Instead of me telling you where I’m headed, here’s a better question: Where are you headed? If you’re venturing into new territory and a place I’ve been, I’ll be happy to offer up some suggestions. You know my favorites, especially Wellsboro, but now also Marietta.

Of course, is there anything more fun than discovering a hidden gem on a road trip and feeling the satisfaction of knowing something no one else knows about?

Lastly, yes, bear with us. Some of the subscriber issues and email issues are still under construction. We’re essentially fighting with third-party customer service/tech support to provide answers.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Ch-ch-changes. As the Penguins turn and face the changes, there could be immediate positives that make the team better. And, the fan base might be better for them, too. From Evgeni Malkin to Dan Muse, and the rebirth of rowdies, take a look at the Penguins’ movement.

Steelers Now: OK, now we’ve moved past the cuts, here is the live tracker for the Steelers Practice Squad signings.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: The Buccos have stashed Alexander Canario on their bench all season. The 25-year-old raw talent has not played much and not produced much. John Perrotto explains why he’s here and what could be for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic ($): The NHL trade chatter burned all summer, but buried within the Marco Rossi contract signing report was a spiffy nugget from GM Bill Guerin. The Wild weren’t eager to trade Rossi, in part because the offers they received were for mid-to-late first-round picks and uninteresting roster players.

I have no knowledge of a Penguins offer, but it would seem logical that the Penguins made a call when they had the 12th pick, or were willing to offer one of the 21st or 24th picks, yes?

Sportsnet: One of the trade stories that has flown under the radar this summer. “It’s obvious.” Even the Calgary Flames players admit that the team will trade Rasmus Anderssen this season.

A bit of a sensationalized headline from the Team Canada orientation, “All options are on the table,” doesn’t quite mean what it says. Connor McDavid was asked about his contract progress, and he tried to be honest, but no, he didn’t open the door to a trade.

TSN: The Carolina Hurricanes dished out a couple of PTOs. Oliver Kylington and Giavani Smith will try their hand at ‘Canes camp.

New Jersey Hockey Now: How bad do you want it? Embattled prospect defenseman Simon Nemec has hit the gym, and hit it with a vengeance. His social media posts were a bit stunning for New Jersey Devils peeps.

Montreal Hockey Now: Kirby Dach has been beaten up and beaten down by injuries. It’s sapped his production, and he needed another knee surgery in February. He’s now putting weight on it and working back toward playing for the Montreal Canadiens this season.

I know a lot of you circled Dach on your trade board. The Penguins’ situation is not currently conducive, but that car has a lot of horsepower if they can just fix the wheels.

San Jose Hockey Now: Can you imagine sitting through one of these California local meetings? Our Sheng Peng survived the entire, lengthy San Jose City Council meeting. We’re talking HOURS. However, he got the story; there’s a new lease at the SAP for the San Jose Sharks.

San Jose is a unique city and the right place for the Sharks. It feels about the size of Greensburg. It’s sleepy, too. But real estate prices are just the other side of “What the …?!”
