Yankees’ Jake Cousins Faces Unexpected Pec Injury—Could This Threaten His Season Before It Starts?
It’s been a rough stretch for Yankees reliever Jake Cousins—just when you think he’s inching closer to reclaiming his spot on the mound after months sidelined, another hiccup throws a wrench in the works. After two recent batting practice sessions, Cousins started feeling some twinges in his chest area, which has understandably slowed his progress. Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared on Saturday that Cousins won’t be taking the mound again for at least four or five days, signaling yet another pause in what’s been a challenging recovery. Earlier this spring, Boone had already revealed Cousins was dealing with a strained right forearm, casting doubts on whether he’d be ready for opening day on March 27. The 30-year-old right-hander had just pitched batting practice to injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton back on May 6 and threw another session before the pec discomfort led to a necessary shutdown.
