49ers Weigh Shocking Draft Trade: Could They Surrender No. 33 for a Treasure Trove of Picks?
Fans may have to wait a bit longer in the second round to see a San Francisco 49ers selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Per Jordan Schultz, the 49ers are considered “very open” to moving back and acquiring more picks from 33.
This is in line with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s comments on Monday night following the conclusion of the draft’s first round.
“The guys we would have had to take at 30 are still there,” Shanahan said, elaborating on going back from 27 to 30 and now 33.
Sounds like there are multiple players the 49ers are targeting, and they won’t get all of them at 33. They have no problem moving back a few more times in order to snag one of them. Who is it? Guess we’ll have to see.
The 49ers started the draft with pick 27. They finished not making a selection in the third round and are scheduled to start Day 2 at 33.
In the same interview, Shanahan said they had players targeted at that selection (27), however they were not keen on moving up due to only having six picks in this draft. The 49ers stayed put, and other teams selected those prospects. Now the 49ers have seven picks, with many of their current picks bumped up in the selection order.
At least the 49ers aren’t picking because they are accumulating picks and/or improving positioning. Better than not picking in the first round because they didn’t have any first or second round picks to begin with.
The 49ers have three selections on Friday. Two in the second round (Nos. 33 and 58) and one in the third (No. 90).
Well, maybe.
