Alabama AD Greg Byrne Secures Surprise Two-Year Extension Amid Mounting Pressure
Byrne has played a pivotal role in several major coaching hires during his time at Alabama. He hired Kalen DeBoer following Nick Saban’s retirement in 2023 and later gave the football head coach a two-year contract extension and raise in April after the program reached the College Football Playoff. Byrne also hired men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats and baseball head coach Rob Vaughn, along with gymnastics head coach Ashley Johnston.
During the 2025-26 academic year, the Crimson Tide became the only Division I program to reach the College Football Playoff, the women’s NCAA Tournament, the men’s NCAA Tournament, the Women’s College World Series and the Men’s College World Series.
