Alabama Secures Shocking 4-Star Receiver Commitment in Game-Changing Deal
Derrick Nix rises as the winning assistant who ran point on Gayles’ commitment. But Gayles believes he’s walking into a championship situation in Tuscaloosa, as he told Chad Simmons of On3/Rivals after his decision.
“It’s definitely a championship environment,” Gayles said to Simmons. “You can feel how winning the program is as soon as you step on campus. They’re all about football, and they’re detailed with everything they do.”
Nix kept in touch with Gayles too amid a big notable change. DeBoer and Alabama lost prominent assistant JaMarcus Shephard, who accepted the open Oregon State head coaching job in late November. The now former receivers coach for Alabama Shephard initially started the relationship with Gayles before Nix took over.
