Cal’s Star Duo Returns Against Wake Forest: Can Sagapolutele and Lopa Spark an Unstoppable Comeback?
“Cal’s two best players are set to return against Wake Forest — QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele and DB Kingston Lopa. Both missed last week dealing with concussions,” Thamel wrote.
Sagapolutele sustained a head injury during California’s 39-31 loss to UNLV. The quarterback hit his head on the turf late in the first half and did not return after showing symptoms consistent with a concussion. His injury forced the Golden Bears to turn to their backup as they attempted to stay competitive against UNLV.
Backup quarterback Jackson Brousseau stepped in and finished the game by completing 19 of 32 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. In Sagapolutele’s absence, Brousseau also started against Virginia Tech and helped California secure a 25-20 victory.
