Could Philip Rivers’ Return as NC State Coach Spark a Game-Changing Revolution?
“NC State legend and former NFL QB Philip Rivers has emerged as the focus of the Wolfpack’s coaching search. With Rivers finishing out the high school season in Alabama, sources tell On3 there is no timetable for his hiring,” the report read.
NC State decided to part ways with Doeren following a disappointing start to the 2026 season. Doeren spent 14 seasons leading the Wolfpack before they dismissed him following a loss to Stanford.
While conversations about a possible return to NC State continue to gain momentum, Rivers remains focused on his current responsibilities as the head coach of St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama. He has been leading the program since 2021 and is now in his sixth season with the team.
