Now under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel, the Three Lions arrive in North America this summer firmly under the microscope and the pressure to get their hands on a first piece of international silverware since way back in 1966 will start to intensify.
While talismanic skipper Harry Kane might have enjoyed a record-breaking campaign with German giants Bayern Munich and finds himself regarded as a genuine Ballon d’Or contender, Tuchel’s squad announcement last week raised plenty of eyebrows.
Despite winning all of their eight World Cup qualifying appearances by an aggregate score of 22-0, it is fair to say that England have failed to make a major statement ahead of their trip to North America.
