The department projects $297 million in athletics revenue and expenses for the 2026-27 season. Michigan’s football NIL budget is estimated at $35 million to $40 million, as head coach Kyle Whittingham said the cost of operating a competitive championship-level program could approach $50 million in 2027.
The Wolverines enter Whittingham’s first season after Sherrone Moore was fired for cause in December. Michigan has compiled a 59-16 record during the 2020s, including its 2023 national championship.
