Looking at his numbers in a vacuum, Wotherspoon seemed like a player who could be a solid defensive top-four option for a team willing to give him the chance to prove it. The Penguins did and he’s thriving this year on the team’s top pair. Wotherspoon is playing over 21 minutes per night and his plus-2.4 Defensive Rating leads the Penguins.
