Texas Tech President Breaks Silence: What Brendan Sorsby’s Unexpected Second Chance Really Means
A judge ultimately granted Sorsby a temporary injunction, allowing him to suit up for Texas Tech University during the 2026 season while the legal dispute continues. As part of the ruling, however, Sorsby will be required to sit out Texas Tech’s first two games of the season. The NCAA has since appealed the decision.
Schovanec, in a quote obtained by Trey Wallace, expressed sympathy for Sorsby in the incident.
“Brendan made a mistake, we acknowledge that, mistakes have consequences. At the same time, here’s a young man with a dream and vision to pursue a career. We felt, not to have the opportunity to pursue that career given the circumstances and evolving changes in this world athletes face, was unfair and unjust.”
