Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire Finally Speaks Out: What the Brendan Sorsby Ruling Really Means for the Team
Sorsby entered a residential treatment program for gambling addiction earlier this spring, and McGuire publicly supported that decision. His legal team later filed a lawsuit and emergency injunction seeking immediate reinstatement for the 2026 season. Texas Tech has also stated its intent to appeal the NCAA’s ruling.
For the Red Raiders, the situation has immediate football implications. Sorsby has one year of eligibility remaining, while backup Will Hammond continues recovering from a torn ACL. McGuire said Sorsby is currently off campus with family after completing rehab and has not yet returned to the program.
