Tragic Mystery: Former HBCU Football Star Fatally Shot Under Suspicious Circumstances

All five suspects appeared in court Tuesday and entered not guilty pleas. Harrison, who was already out on bond for an attempted murder charge stemming from a 2025 shooting in Rankin County, has been denied bond in connection with Bowie’s death. Sanabria, who is also charged with murder and accused of fatally shooting Bowie, was likewise denied bond. His bond hearing is scheduled for June 23.

Long before his college career, Bowie established himself as one of Mississippi’s premier football prospects. A standout at Morton High School, he earned U.S. Army All-American honors and became one of the state’s most highly recruited athletes before signing with Ole Miss. Bowie played defensive back for the Rebels during the 2017 season, appearing in nine games as a freshman. He recorded six tackles and one pass breakup while competing in the SEC.
