The Australian angle: where the ball drops legally
Australia’s interactive gambling setup has always been a bit curly. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it illegal for operators to offer real-money online casino games to people physically in the country, but offshore-licensed sites can still accept Australian registrations, and the legal heat tends to fall on the operator rather than the punter. ACMA has blocked domains and chased affiliates, nudging plenty of Aussies onto offshore brands with servers in Curaçao, the Isle of Man, or Malta.
