The pair gave a statement to media reporter Emily Sundberg in her Feed Me newsletter:

“We’ll share soon what we’ve got up our sleeve for our next move, we’re really excited about it,” they said in part.

“As two women in the male-dominated world of sports, we know that it’s crucial to keep growing our show, one where anyone can listen or watch and learn how off-the-field stories in sports impact our culture more than ever.”

As media reporter Max Tani of Semafor later noted on X, the departure of The Sports Gossip Show from The Athletic’s podcast network is part of a broader exodus of podcast stars from The New York Times (which owns The Athletic). The Athletic also licenses Pablo Torre Finds Out, which netted the outlet a Pulitzer Prize earlier this year, as well as The Tennis Podcast.
