BYU’s Star RB LJ Martin Faces Uncertain Fate: What This Means for the Big Game Against Utah

With Martin out, fellow senior Preston Rex has been helping carry the load in the backfield alongside quarterback Bear Bachmeier. He has 223 yards on 39 carries with two touchdowns this season.

However,  Simone Moa has emerged in recent weeks as a reliable goal-line back for the Cougars. He has three touchdowns over the last two games, including two in their 27-20 win over Arizona State last week.

With major College Football Playoff implications for both teams, BYU will need all the help they can get to overcome an undefeated Utah on the road. While Martin likely won’t be close to full strength for the game, having him back will still be a welcome development for the Cougars. He had a starring role in BYU’s 24-21 win over Utah last season, rushing for a team-high 122 yards.
