The Differential Rotation of the Sun
The Sun doesn't rotate as a rigid body. This means that its equator spins faster than its poles. This phenomenon, known as differential rotation, is a direct result of the Sun being a fluid – a plasma, to be precise. The plasma at the equator has a shorter distance to travel in one rotation compared to the plasma closer to the poles. Furthermore, there’s a complex interplay of magnetic fields and convection currents within the Sun that influence the speed of rotation at different latitudes.
