From HBCU Unknown to WWE Spotlight: The Untold Journey of Trick Williams to Wrestlemania Glory
WrestleMania season is officially here, and one of the biggest stars in WWE has HBCU ties. Trick Williams has been on an ascension in his career since being drafted to SmackDown after a wildly heralded run in NXT. He is set to make his WrestleMania debut against Sami Zayn in a match for the United States Championship.
But before Trick Williams stepped into the ring as a WWE superstar, he was once an HBCU football player in the MEAC. Matrick Belton was a two-sport athlete at Keenan High School. He played basketball and football, showcasing considerable talent at wide receiver. He eventually went on to attend Hampton University and played for the team for two seasons. He attended the institution on a full-ride scholarship and was a part of two Pirate squads that were transitioning back to their winning ways. In 2012, Hampton went 3-7 and then 4-8 in the 2013 season.
