Grambling Unveils Shocking Return of HBCU Legend to Mickey Joseph’s Coaching Dream Team
In July, Joseph confirmed that they had been discussing bringing Eugene back to the team.
“He’s one of the people we’re talking to; we have three or four people we’re talking to,” Joseph said in a quote obtained by the Ruston Daily Leader. “We’ll have this thing cleared up by next week for sure.”
Eugene is widely considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in both Grambling and SWAC history. He played from 2001 to 2005, winning SWAC Offensive Player of the Year twice in his tenure, as well as being a three-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award. He led Grambling State to four SWAC championships and four HBCU national championships, finishing his career with 13,580 passing yards and 140 touchdown passes.
