Maryland’s pursuit of Roberts dates back to October and intensified after assistant coach James Thomas offered him during his junior season. Thomas remained heavily involved in the recruitment, including an in-person visit during a bye week, helping the Terrapins stay in contention even after Roberts committed to the Tar Heels. Roberts arrived in College Park for his official visit on June 4, one week after taking an official visit to North Carolina.
Roberts is the No. 580 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 52 safety nationally, and the No. 49 recruit from California, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. Before transferring to IMG Academy from Bishop Alemany in California ahead of his sophomore season, Roberts began building his reputation as a versatile defensive back.
