Kirby Smart Drops Bombshell on SEC’s Future as Big Ten Surges to Powerhouse Status
For the majority of the 21st century, the SEC has been rightfully viewed as the best conference not only in college football, but college sports as a whole. For years, Alabama reigned at the top of the sport for many years with Nick Saban at the helm, while Florida and LSU also took turns at the top. In more recent years, Georgia established itself as a dominant powerhouse under Kirby Smart.
However, there has been a bit of a shift at the very top of the sport in recent years. The Big Ten, which has expanded and evolved over the years, has been right there challenging the SEC for the throne, and it has come out on top time and time again. Three seasons have now passed without a national champion from the SEC, with all three winners coming from the Big Ten.
