Mekhi Williams’ Shocking Twist: Why He Ditched Florida State for Wisconsin Last Minute

The 6-foot-2 defensive back, listed between 165 and 170 pounds by recruiting services, was one of Wisconsin’s top priorities for months. The Badgers continued recruiting him despite his Florida State commitment, with assistant coaches Robert Steeples and Paul Haynes playing central roles in the recruitment. Williams had previously visited Madison during the spring, and his official visit strengthened his connection with the program.

Recruiting services rank Williams among the nation’s top prospects. 247Sports lists him as high as No. 107 nationally, while the 247Sports Composite ranks him No. 197 overall, No. 17 safety, and No. 21 player in Florida.
