Ryan Day Reveals Surprising Twist in CFP Rules That Could Ignite Ohio State’s Biggest Rivalries

“I think with the elimination of the championship game, it keeps that rivalry as fierce as it’s ever been, the stakes just as high.”

Ohio State and Michigan have staged some epic battles over the years, with the Buckeyes finally ending a four-year losing streak against the Wolverines in 2025. It’s hard to think that the biggest rivalry in college football can get even bigger, but that’s clearly what Day thinks can happen with this new system

The Buckeyes have had success in the first season after playoff expansion every time it has come into play. Urban Meyer led Ohio State to a national title in the first year of the four-team CFP, and Day led the Buckeyes to the title in the first year of the 12-team bracket. Maybe the 24-team field, whenever it does get put into play, will also be fruitful for the fans up in Columbus.
