SEC Shakes Up NCAA Football: Which Pro Athletes Are Returning and Why It Matters

The Southeastern Conference has drawn a firm line in the sand. Following a Monday evening videoconference of the league’s presidents and chancellors, the SEC issued a pointed statement opposing the idea of former professional athletes returning to compete in college sports.

The conference’s leadership argued that permitting such returns would blur the line between college and professional sports, create competitive equity concerns, and reduce opportunities for high school and current college athletes.
