Unexpected Twist: Former Georgia Star Cleared of Charges After Shocking Pre-Draft Arrest

“Zachariah cooperated fully with law enforcement and did not commit a crime on the night of his arrest and never should have been arrested,” Stephens said. “We are glad this matter is over and that Mr. Branch’s excellent reputation and good name [are] restored.”

Branch’s arrest came right before the 2026 NFL Draft and a day after playing in a spring football game for Georgia. Ultimately, Branch was selected as the No.79 pick by the Falcons in the third round.

Overall, Branch played his collegiate career at USC and Georgia. He became a first-team All-American in 2023. In 2025, Branch led the SEC with 81 conferences. Additionally, he broke Georgia’s single-season receptions record, once held by Brice Hunter, with 76.
