Why 2027’s Top DL Shockingly Chose Texas Tech Over Powerhouses Arizona and Colorado
What’s next for Texas Tech after landing Khyren Haywood
It’s a great pickup for the Texas Tech Red Raiders to pull off, seeing Khyren Haywood as a valuable lineman for the future defense.
In 2025, Haywood racked up tallied 61 tackles, 24.5 TFL, 11.5 sacks, and one interception in 14 games as a junior. For the 2024 campaign, he broke out with 67 tackles, 22 TFL, five sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Haywood’s commitment moves Texas Tech’s 2027 recruiting class to 23rd nationally, and tops in the Big 12, according to 247Sports. He is the fifth defensive lineman on Texas Tech’s commit list, joining five-star Jalen Brewster, four-star Anthony Sweeney, four-star K’Adrian Redmond and three-star Brody Pfannenstiel to comprise one of, if not the most, elite defensive line classes in the country for the 2027 recruiting cycle.
