Why Texas Tech’s Early Spotlight on Thomas Castellanos Could Change College Football Forever
Former Florida State and Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos has entered the transfer portal after a Kentucky judge granted him an injunction allowing him to compete for a fifth college season, with Texas Tech among the early schools to watch for Castellanos, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
Castellanos was among 13 football and basketball players who filed a lawsuit in Kentucky seeking immediate portal access. The dispute centers on eligibility rules affecting athletes who entered college in 2022. A federal judge in Colorado previously granted an injunction allowing most athletes from that high school class to return for another season, but that ruling did not create a transfer portal window. Castellanos sought the ability to transfer because the Seminoles did not have a roster spot available after adding Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels. Kentucky Judge Brian Edwards issued the ruling Friday.
