Why Texas Tech’s Early Spotlight on Thomas Castellanos Could Change College Football Forever
Castellanos completed 58.3% of his passes for 2,760 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season at Florida State. He added 557 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground and finished as the nation’s No. 43 passer with a 143.5 rating.
His only season with the Seminoles included a major early-season win. Castellanos helped Florida State defeat then-No. 8 Alabama, 31-17, during the opening weekend. Florida State ultimately finished 5-7.
The Red Raiders have a clear need for additional quarterback depth after Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby, the Texas Tech’s original portal addition at the position, left the program following treatment for a gambling addiction. Junior Will Hammond is expected to start, but he is recovering from an ACL injury suffered last October. Sophomore Lloyd Jones III is currently listed behind him and has attempted only five college passes.
