This announcement raises a pressing question: where does this leave interim GM Shawn Horcoff, who’s been holding the reins in an uncertain atmosphere? While Ilitch praises Horcoff’s efforts and holds him as a leading candidate for the permanent GM spot, the reality is layered. The new president, once in place, will call the shots on who ultimately manages the hockey side, leaving Horcoff’s future hanging in the balance. It’s a slow-moving chess game, rich with intrigue and strategic maneuvering, as Detroit aims to fuse innovation, analytics, and fresh leadership to return to prominence. Meanwhile, fans and insiders alike wonder just how much longer this process will take—and whether Horcoff will remain at the helm or yield to a new vision.
