HBCU Coach Breaks Silence: Unexpected Backing of Controversial Trump Executive Order Sparks Debate
In a recent interview with Brian Holloway on the Aggie Pridecast, North Carolina A&T head football coach Shawn Gibbs says that he likes the transfer portal element of the executive order.
“I kind of like the executive order, as far as kids still having the freedom to transfer, but just one time. After that, you’d have to sit out a year, which I think would kind of cut back on things.”
The regulations of NIL, the transfer portal, and other elements of college athletics have been a hot topic over the past few seasons. However, only Congress can pass a law affecting the NCAA and its member institutions, as the NCAA operates as a private sector organization. Once legislation such as the SCORE Act is passed by the House and the Senate, it would go to the President’s desk and could be signed into law or vetoed.
