Legendary HBCU Broadcaster Charlie Neal’s Untold Story Emerges Following His Passing
Neal’s broadcasting career is immortalized through his various awards and Hall of Fame inductions. He has been inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame, the MEAC Hall of Fame, and the CIAA Hall of Fame.
Many tributes to Neal for his work in media poured in across social media.
“WHAT. Amazing, incredible man. Spoke to him many, many, many times. So kind and supportive. A trusted voice for HBCU sports for generations,” said journalist Jemele Hill on her X account.
“One of the first play by play voices I heard was that of Mr. Charlie Neal back in the mid 1980’s. A Black man who was articulate and painted the picture of the action I watched was amazing to me. He was an influence into why I wanted to be a sports broadcaster back then,” said Donny Epting (@Hey_D_Ray) on his X account.
