Michigan Stadium’s 2026 Overhaul: What Fans Won’t Expect to See on Game Day
The changes come as Michigan looks for additional revenue opportunities amid rising college athletics expenses and name, image and likeness costs. The department projects $297 million in athletics revenue and expenses for the 2026-27 season. Michigan’s football NIL budget is estimated at $35 million to $40 million, as head coach Kyle Whittingham said the cost of operating a competitive championship-level program could approach $50 million in 2027.
The Wolverines enter Whittingham’s first season after Sherrone Moore was fired for cause in December. Michigan has compiled a 59-16 record during the 2020s, including its 2023 national championship.
