Missouri Star Ahmad Hardy Faces Shocking Setback: Will He Miss Entire 2026 Season?

Hardy was shot on May 10 while attending a concert in Mississippi and underwent surgery to treat the injury. He later returned to Columbia, Missouri, where he began his rehabilitation.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said at SEC Media Days in July that Hardy had been “medically cleared,” while also explaining that his return-to-play timeline could take five to eight weeks. Drinkwitz had previously provided positive updates regarding Hardy’s rehabilitation.

The timing matters because Hardy heads into the 2026 season coming off one of the best rushing seasons in college football. He ran for 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2025, leading the SEC in rushing yards and averaging 6.4 yards per carry. Hardy finished second nationally in rushing and earned first-team All-American honors. Over the previous two seasons, he accumulated 3,000 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns.
