The Legendary Pat White’s Jersey Retirement: What This Means for West Virginia’s Football Future
White was recruited by multiple schools out of high school, but many of the teams wanted him to switch positions. White originally committed to LSU, where they were going to have him play wide receiver. He also had the chance to pursue a baseball career. When WVU offered White a chance to come play quarterback, he flipped his commitment to the Mountaineers.
In his freshman season, he originally split time with Adam Bednarik before becoming the full-time starter. In his four years at West Virginia, he passed for 6,049 yards plus 56 touchdowns. He would also run for 4,480 yards and 47 scores. In that time, he was named a three-time First-Team All-Big East player and a two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Year.
